Set of 8 cards and envelopes featuring "Finding Angelo" and "Tenacity" artwork by artist Austin Miles. Set includes two 4.25" x 5.5" note cards per image with matching envelopes. Made in USA. ABOUT THE ARTWORK: "FINDING ANGELO" In 2019, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation held a special seminar at Jamestown Settlement honoring Angelo - the first recorded African woman in Virginia. In the backdrop of this session, the echo of Angelo's legacy came to life in real time as artist Austin Miles created an interpretive portrait of the first African woman mentioned by name in the historical record at Jamestown. ABOUT THE ARTWORK: "TENACITY" "TENACITY" is a collaborative multi-medium work that depicts the Virginia Indian, West Central African and English women of Jamestown and their connection through being tenacious in the face of adversity. This piece was painted as a two-part collaboration with the visitors to Jamestown Settlement during the 2019 TENACITY Special Exhibition and painter Austin "Auz" Miles. Collaborators were asked to contribute by painting or sharing anecdotes of tenacious women throughout history or their personal lives. These writings about mothers, leaders, and cultural trailblazers were then attached to the canvas in tribute to surround the Jamestown women that tenaciously paved the way for so many.
